Notes about the web app!

  • You can adjust the size of the above on Desktop by clicking and dragging from the bottom right corner.
  • This is beta! There may be issues (please read below)! However, issues with loading are not on my end. Most issues with loading will be resolved by one of these troubleshooting steps:
    • Using an Incognito tab of your browser.
    • Clearing your browser’s cache. This is usually found under “browsing history” as an option, or under “privacy and security.” The one you need to clear is most likely “Cached images and files.”
    • Disabling your browser’s network cache–on Desktop Google Chrome, right click -> Inspect -> Network -> Checkbox for Disable Cache -> Refresh the page.
    • …or just waiting until server caches propagate/clear.
  • Download your save data! The app saves data locally on your device. However, when I release an update (which I do often right now!) it is *likely* it will result in save data being wiped, or misplaced, on your device. On the settings (wrench) page, you can download (on desktop) or copy to clipboard the save data to save it elsewhere. You can then import a valid save file from your clipboard. export them to your clipboard to paste anywhere for later. Be sure to back-up your save if there’s something you want! This feature also lets you copy save data from the Android app to browser and such.

Mission statement and important information!

Hello! I’m Sera of Greenharbor in the kingdom of Polaris. This website is for my LARP app, for Amtgard: Sera’s Tome! Here, you can snag the .apk, use the Desktop browser version, or visit the version intended for mobile device display. I love this game and have a lot of passion for the game system. I want an app with some character, and that has some of the energy I felt and still feel as a, comparatively to many, new player. I’ve learned a lot making this app, and hope that this way of presenting information will resonate with other players, too!

I’ve made this with three big goals in mind–1.) Better learning tools 2.) Playtesting, and 3.) Long-term support:

  1. You can click basically everything and immediately get a popup teaching you. There’s martial class calculators and build exports, including supporting the playtest archetypes. There’s a full spellbook, dedicated resource pages to highlight a specific area (IE weapon types, magic balls, different projectiles, states), and even a fun flashcard feature.
  2. Players need tools for playtests, too, so the tests are good ones. Learning the new rules shouldn’t be a barrier to testing them, and I want to help reduce any of that difficulty.
  3. I see this project as an ongoing commitment and I don’t want to burn out. So, I’ve built it in a way that I will be able to keep it up to date without having to spend so many hours like I did these last couple weeks! Each new playtest/rules release should only take me like 15-30 minutes to update the app. And even a full game overhaul would make this a strong starting point to create a new version.

Stuff I need feedback on the most:

  • Please look over the classes you play for accuracy. There’s a lot of configuration, and it’s easy to modify and fix, but also easy to make a mistake on which options I selected in the editor system I made!
  • Let me know if the app is obviously broken on your device! Like graphical or won’t run.
  • I’m not trying to replace the rulebook. amtgard.com/documents is linked on the resource page. There are some tooltips I’ve been essentially required to condense information from multiple pages which requires a bit of interpretation to do. If you think I totally missed the mark somewhere, let me know.

Some known issues and things for you to know!

  • Export options will have some additions and changes made, as well as a couple very small export bugs like extra lines.
  • Resource pages are incomplete. The magic ball one is mostly done and gives an idea of where I’m going with them.
  • It’s a “playtest first” approach to development. That means that spell tooltips show the playtest version of the spell or rulebook entry. In cases where a spell is different in playtest than official, there should be a note saying what it does “Outside Playtest:” Splitting the rulebook into two versions would greatly increase workload for maintaining this project, and is not planned to be done, but there’s improvements to do her like only displaying the note if you are looking at it from a list/calculator that isn’t playtest.
  • In cases where a spell is known both by a martial class and a magic user class, the spellbook/tooltips prioritize the magic user version. If there’s a different range for the Martial class, that’s listed on the martial class calculator. This reflects how the Rules of Play does it with the main versions being the magic ones and the tags like (Self) getting added to Martial/Enchantment versions of spells.
